    Indo-Lanka Army Commanders’ first meet in the rank of General

    The Commander of the Indian Army, General Manoj Mukund Naravane was accorded a hearty welcome today (13) at the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters amidst traditional military honors.

    The Chief of the Indian Army General Manoj Mukund Naravane arrived in Sri Lanka at the invitation of the Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva.

    The purpose of the visit was to strengthen friendly relations and military cooperation based on mutual understanding and understanding between the two countries, the Army Headquarters said.

    Gen. Manoj Mukund Naravane was an officer attached to the Indian Peace Keeping Force who had rendered great service to Sri Lanka in the past.

    Thereafter, Maj. Gen. Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Executive General of the Army Headquarters, welcomed the Chief of the Indian Army, General Manoj Mukund Naravane and escorted him to the Chief Etiquette.

    The Commanding Officer then invited the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army to observe the drill parade and the troops held a colorful salute.

    Afterwards, the Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva warmly welcomed the Chief of the Indian Army General Manoj Mukund Naravane at the entrance of the Army Headquarters and introduced Chief of Staff of the Army Major General Priyantha Perera and Deputy Chief of Staff Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda to him.

    During a cordial meeting between the Commander of the Indian Army General Manoj Mukund Naravane and the Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva General Naravane recalled the long standing bilateral ties between the two countries and also recalled the memories during the period of humanitarian operations launched by the LTTE against terrorism in 1987 as a Commanding Officer attached to the Indian Peace Keeping Force, how he acted against the LTTE violence in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and the Wanni.

    General Naravane also stressed the importance of modernizing the two armies in line with international standards on potential threats, including cyber attacks.

    Afterwards, General Shavendra Silva thanked the Commander of the Indian Army for involving Indian Army personnel in the boosting of bilateral military exercises and training modules between the two countries.

    During the meeting, members of the Sri Lanka Army and members of the Indian Army also discussed the ongoing ‘Mithra Shakthi’ training exercise.

    The Army Commanders of the two countries agreed to continue the training programs being implemented between the two countries.

    Gen. Naravane stated that the Indian Army will continue to provide technical assistance to enhance the needs of the Sri Lanka Army.

    At the end of the meeting at the Army Commander’s Office, the Commanders of the two countries exchanged souvenirs.
