    STF seizes stock of cigarettes and narcotics hidden in luggage from Dubai

    The Police Special Task Force (STF) raided the Eriyawatiya area in Kelaniya yesterday (26) and arrested two suspects with a stock of narcotics called Cocaine along with a consignment of cigarettes smuggled into the country after paying customs duties.

    The value of the cocaine found was around Rs. 2 million and the value of the cigarettes was around Rs. 500,000, the STF said.

    The suspect arrested with cocaine was identified as Sanka. It has been revealed that this person had arrived in the country from the United Arab Emirates on July 11. STF said it has been revealed that Sanka, who has close ties with drug traffickers currently in the United Arab Emirates, smuggled these drugs into the country by hiding them in car headrests.

    Cocaine hidden headrests and other items brought into the country among the ship’s goods were released yesterday (26).

    After clearing the items from a supply company in Nuge Road, Peliyagoda belongs to Sri Lanka Ports Authority, he had taken the goods to his house located on Iriyawetiya School Mawatha in a rented lorry. According to information received by the STF in advance, a team led by OIC of the Intelligence Unit, Chief Inspector Nadeeka Silva had searched the suspect’s house and found a stock of cocaine and cigarettes. The driver of the lorry has also been arrested on suspicion.
