Rs. 2000 allowance for Low-income Families

The government has decided to pay an allowance of Rs. 2,000 to families who have lost their livelihoods due to the temporary closure of the country to control the spread of Covid-19.

Accordingly, the Joint Secretary of the Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation, Additional Secretary to Prime Minister, Anton Perera has instructed all District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries to pay the allowance.

It has been informed that only low-income families who have not received any allowance from the government should be selected to pay this allowance.

Accordingly, government monthly Beneficiaries like State workers, Retirees, Samurdhi Beneficiaries, Elderly, ‘Siyawas Poorna’, Disabled, etc. are not eligible for this.

Additional provisions required for the payment of these benefits have been provided by the treasury to the District Secretaries.

Accordingly, the Task Force has directed the officers working at the Grama Niladhari Division level, including the Divisional Coordinating Committee and the Rural Committee, to pay this allowance to the beneficiaries in an appropriate manner in accordance with the health guidelines.

The order also states that it is essential to obtain a certificate that the allowance has been received by the relevant beneficiary.
