    Parliament will convene today (17) for the 2nd reading of the Corona Virus Bill

    Parliament will convene today (17) for the second reading of the 2019 Corona Virus Disease (Covid 19) (Temporary Provisions) Bill and the passage of four Orders.

    At the request of the Leader of the House amidst the prevailing Covid situation, it was decided at the emergency meeting of the party leaders held yesterday (16) that Parliament should convene only today.

    Thereafter, Parliament has decided to adjourn until Monday, September 06.

    Accordingly, the Leader of the House, Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena stated that September 06 is a special Parliamentary day.

    Parliament has not been able to convene regularly in the recent past due to the Covid 19 epidemic.

    Therefore, it was decided at the Committee on Parliamentary Business which met on 05.08.2021 to declare September 06 and September 27, 2021 as Special Parliamentary Days to give the opportunity to questions that could not be answered on behalf of the Government.

    However, it was proposed to give two special parliamentary days in the opinion of the government and the Leader of the House, as the government had to answer questions of current importance.

    The Leader of the House, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena moved the motion for the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs held on 05.08.2021 and the members of the Government, as well as the Opposition in the Committee, agreed to it.

    Accordingly, it was decided to declare September 06 and 27, 2021 as Special Parliamentary Days. The Leader of the House, Minister of Education Dinesh Gunawardena further stated that it was decided to allow discussions only unanswered questions these days.
