Experts say that the analysis of PCR test results has revealed that the Delta variety has become the fastest-growing Kovid variety in the Colombo district.
Accordingly, laboratory tests have revealed that 75% of the Covid patients found in Colombo in the last week of July were infected with the Delta type.
Recorded Delta cases in the first week of encountering the Delta variety in Sri Lanka was 19.3%, but last week it was 75%.
This was stated by Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Director, Department of Immunology and Molecular Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, based on the PCR results tested in his laboratory.
