By December 31, 15 MN will be fully Vaccinated in SL – Lalith Weeratunga

Lalith Weeratunga, Chief Adviser to the President and Chief of the Presidential Task Force on COVID Vaccine Preparation, says that by December 31 this year, 15 million people in Sri Lanka will be vaccinated against COVID.

He said the government plans to vaccinate all Sri Lankans between the ages of 12 and 30.

He also said that a provincial census is being conducted to find out the number of people in the country who have not yet received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Addressing the inaugural media briefing held at the newly opened Presidential Media Center today (29), Weeratunga said that most of the COVID-19 deaths reported in Sri Lanka were those who had not been vaccinated or had taken only one dose of the vaccine.

The government expects to vaccinate 11.5 million people over the age of 30 by August 31, 2021, after which another 4 million will be vaccinated.

It was also emphasized that a decision on making COVID-19 vaccination compulsory will be taken in future discussions with the President.

The population of the country over 30 years is 11,496,960.

The total population of the country is 21,919,000.
