Health Services’ strike disrupted many tasks in Hospitals

As a result of the strike by 14 health professions and junior staff, patient care services in a number of hospitals across the country were completely disrupted today (05).

The health professionals and health workers went on strike today for ignoring other services parallel to nursing by the government and over a number of demands.

As a result of their strike, it is reported that services like supply of medicine to outpatients in hospitals across the country, PCR and rapid antigen testing, and MRI scans were unable to operate.

In addition, hospitals did not provide medical care, dental care, or eye care, and tasks of public health inspectors and family health workers were also stopped due to the strike.

Meanwhile, thousands of patients who had come to the Colombo National Hospital and other major hospitals for outpatient treatment returned empty-handed.

As public health inspectors did not participate in anti-covid vaccination programs they were also hampered.
