The official vehicle in which the Governor of the Eastern Province Mr. Sendil Thondaman was traveling collided with a motorcycle and met with an accident yesterday evening.
The accident took place at the Kotathavali junction on the Akkarapattu – Ampara road.
The Eragama Police, who are investigating the accident, say that the car carrying the governor with vehicle number KS 6008 collided with the motorcycle and the rider and the rear rider of the motorcylcle were injured.
The motorcycle as well as the governor’s official car were damaged in this accident.
The driver of the governor’s official vehicle has been arrested by the police on suspicion of this accident and released on police bail. The driver is a resident of Kelawarapitiya.
The Governor of the Eastern Province also participated in an opening ceremony of the new building of the Addalachchena Hospital yesterday. There was also a protest yesterday by local residents in front of the hospital against the opening of the building without completing its constructions.
