The Department of Posts has taken steps to keep 13 post offices in Colombo and Kalutara district open 24 hours a day.
Accordingly, post offices at Kompanjaveediya, Havelock Town, Wellawatta, Borella, Kotahena, Battaramulla, Nugegoda, Dehiwala, Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa, Panadura, Kalutara, Seethawakapura are open 24 hours a day.
The Department of Posts states that 13 post offices with night services have been opened 24 hours a day in the Western Province-South (Colombo-Kalutara) postal jurisdiction as a pilot project to expand service provision for the public.
The post offices are also equipped to accept fines issued in connection with traffic cases at night.
Therefore, the Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Control and Road Safety, Mr. Indika Hapugoda, has directed the police chiefs of the traffic divisions and police divisions of the Western Province has been notified in writing to inform the police officers and drivers about the fines issued by the police to the drivers in connection with traffic offenses, as those post offices are capable of paying them 24 hours a day.
