Deputy Speaker Mr. Ajith Rajapakse has informed Parliament today (07) of the Supreme Court’s decision on the ‘Security of Online Systems Bill’ proposed by the government, which was challenged before the court.
Accordingly, the Supreme Court has informed that some of its clauses must be passed by a special majority in the Parliament.
However, the Supreme Court also said that this Act can be passed by a simple majority in the Parliament if it is amended at the time of the committee subject to the proposed amendments in the Supreme Court decision regarding several clauses.
Subject to the above, the Supreme Court has declared that the Bill or any of its provisions is inconsistent with the Constitution.
