    The Second Iteration of the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup Concludes at Picturesque Eagles Golf Links in China Bay

    The Sri Lanka Air Force and the Eagles’ Golf Links hosted the second edition of Eagles’ Monsoon Cup Golf Tournament, which was concluded yesterday (29 October 2023) in the picturesque settings of China Bay, close to the harbour city of Trincomalee. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa graced the tournament as the Chief Guest. The tournament was powered by Avant Grade Security Services (Pvt) Limited as the main sponsor which made it much more glamorous and memorable for the participants. The SLAF was also joined by SLT Mobitel as Technology partner, Bank of Ceylon as banking partner and CATIC International Engineering Limited as clothing partner this year.

    The tournament was played under Stableford Scoring System and started in the morning with the participation of more than seventy (70) enthusiastic golfers including thirteen (13) women and a few other foreign nationals together with the former Commanders of SLAF. The Commander took the first Tee Off signifying the start of the tournament.

    Mr. Nishantha Perera won the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup trophy securing the highest marks in the Gents category while Ms. Pravina Dunuwila won the Ladies’ Trophy. Mr. Ravi Liyanage secured the Runners Up position in the Gents Category while Mrs. Roshini Sangani secured the Ladies Runners Up position. Mr. Tharanga Gunasekera and Mr. Prabath Gamage received the awards for the Longest Drive and for the Nearest to the Pin in the Gents Category while Mrs. Roshini Sangani and Mrs. Niloo Jayathillake took the honours for the Longest Drive and for the Nearest to the Pin respectively in the Ladies’ Category.

    The Eagles’ Monsoon Defence Challenge Trophy presented to members of the Tri-Services (Men’s Category) was won by Wing Commander Asantha Gunarathna from the SLAF. Captain Ananda Dissanayake from SL Navy emerged as the Runner Up for the Eagles’ Monsoon Defence Challenge Trophy. Group Captain Chrishantha Fernando and Colonel Ramindu Hennadige received the awards for the Longest Drive and for the Nearest to the Pin in the Defence Challenge. The player with the best total net clinched by AVM Asoka Amunugama (Retd) in the Six hidden holes competition segment.

    The awards of the Eagles’ Monsoon Cup were given away at a gala Awards Ceremony held at ‘Marble Beach Air Force Resort’ during the evening of the same day. The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa graced the Awards Ceremony as the Chief Guest together with his lady Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa.
