    Sri Lanka records the 100th Test match win setting many records

    The Sri Lankan team won the Test series against Ireland 2-0 and recorded their 100th test match victory today (28) in Galle.

    In the second Test, the Sri Lankan team, won against Ireland by an innings and 10 runs, renewing many records in the Test cricket field in this tournament.

    Playing the first Test match against England at the P Saravanamuthu Stadium in Colombo on February 17-21, 1982, Sri Lanka recorded its first Test victory by winning the second Test of the three-match Test series against India in Colombo on September 06-11, 1985 by 149 runs.

    In the history of 41 years of Test cricket, Sri Lanka has played 310 matches and has lost 119 Test matches so far. Among them, 92 matches have been finished in a draw.

    Batting first in the second Test, Ireland scored a huge score of 492 runs, but the Sri Lankan batsmen and bowlers did not allow them to take control of the match.

    A huge scoreboard of 704 runs was created for the loss of only 3 wickets in the first innings of Sri Lanka and all the first four batsmen who came to bat scored centuries and the Sri Lankan players managed to convert it into a performance that has only happened only twice before in the world.

    Accordingly, Nishan Madushka 205, Dimuth Karunaratne 115, Kusal Mendis 245 and Angelo Mathews scoring 100 not out joined the record books. In addition to this, Nishan Madushka became the second player to convert the debut century of a Test player into a double century. Kusal Mendis hit 11 sixes breaking the record of Kumar Sangakkara for the most number of sixes in an innings. The world record is 12 sixes. Prabhath Jayasuriya took 5 wickets in the first innings and 2 wickets in the second innings and became the fastest spinner to take 50 wickets by the least number of matches (07) in the world. He broke a 72-year-old record. Ramesh Mendis, who took 5 wickets in the second innings, managed to break 6 wickets in this match. Asitha Fernando took 5 wickets in the match and strengthened the pace-balling fleet.

    Prabhath Jayasuriya who took seven wickets in the two innings, won the Man of the Match award and Kusal Mendis, who scored 385 runs in the two matches, won the Man of the Series award.
