    The distribution of mud fertilizer will start today

    A total of 36,000 metric tons of mud fertilizer or triple super fertilizer (TSP) received by Sri Lanka will be distributed free of charge from today (20).

    The Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the Commercial Fertilizer Company and Lanka Fertilizer Company to provide the first batch of these fertilizers to all the districts in the northern and eastern provinces as rice cultivation has already started in the Yala season.

    Accordingly, Mr. Jagath Perera, President of Commercial Fertilizer Company, stated that steps were taken to distribute 11,537 metric tons of manure to all the districts belonging to the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

    Measures have been taken to send 11,537 MT (metric tonnes) of fertilizer to Mannar, 821 MT to Vavuniya, 820 MT to Kilinochchi, 694 MT to Mullaitivu, 297 MT to Jaffna, 1824 MT to Batticaloa, 4066 MT to Ampara and 1746 MT to Trincomalee.

    Arrangements have been made to provide this mud fertilizer from all the agricultural service centers in the island. The farmers of the Northern and Eastern provinces are allowed to get their required amount of mud fertilizer from the respective agricultural service centers from today.

    Farmers Development Commissioner General H. M. A. L. Abeyratne mentions that other districts have also been arranged to get fertilizers in the same way so that the cultivations can begin.

    The amount of mud fertilizer the Department of Agriculture recommends for one hectare of paddy cultivation is 55 kg. Mud fertilizer has been given to all the farmers who cultivated paddy in the Maha season.
