    Chairman of Express Pearl’s local agency has been released

    Arjuna Hettiarachchi, Chairman of Sea Consortium Lanka, who was arrested by the CID this afternoon (Jan. 16) in connection with the Express Pearl incident, has been released on Rs. 100,000 cash bail and two sureties of Rs. 100,000 each.

    Arjuna Hettiarachchi was arrested this morning after surrendering to the CID through his lawyers.

    Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte further ordered that one of the two sureties should not be a close relative of the suspect.

    The judge also ordered the suspect to hand over the passport to the court and that he be banned from traveling abroad.

    The order also directed the Controller of Immigration and Emigration to refrain from issuing a new passport to the suspect and to inform airports and all ports.
