Colombo Aluthkade Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis today (31) ordered the release of Inter-University Student Council convener Wasantha Mudalige, who was arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and remanded for over 150 days.
The magistrate emphasized while giving the relevant order that the suspect has not committed any offense under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
It was also mentioned here that the Colombo Terrorism Investigation Division has misused the Prevention of Terrorism Act in filing charges against the suspect.
Wasantha Mudalige was arrested for obstructing the duty of the police officers on duty during a demonstration held on Fort Bank Mawatha last May and accusing them of obstructing the police officers.
