The Ceylon Teachers’ Union alleges that a show has begun to establish a thousand new national schools in a situation where the current school education has completely collapsed.
The General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, Joseph Stalin said that the schools have been selected for the national-school project without any scientific basis and that it has failed as a project.
He said that the selection of the schools for the project was based on the wishes of the politicians in the area and that it was problematic to select only the schools in the city area developed by the provincial councils.
Mr. Joseph Stalin further said that if the government really wanted to, it could select rural schools, upgrade them and turn them into national schools.
