    Central Bank insists private banks to remain open subjecting to quarantine laws

    The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) this evening (07) issued a circular to all bank chiefs urging commercial banks to remain open to their customers subject to quarantine rules.

    The Central Bank has issued this circular after several private banks announcing that they will be closed for a week from today for normal banking activities.

    It has been directed to remain open to the general public in the next week too, subjecting to the approval and instructions of the Director General of Health Services and the Inspector General of Police.

    According to a special circular issued by the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. W.D. Lakshman to bank executives, commercial bankings should be conducted in a manner that respects the quarantine rules and by participating minimum number of people.

    The number of people who can be admitted to a bank branch at a time is 15.
