The black box of the MV X Press Pearl has found

The MVX-Express Pearl’s Voyage Data Recorder (VDR), commonly known as the “Black Box”, has been found and handed over to the CID for further investigation.

It was conducted by Naval Specialists of the Commercial Shipping Secretariat with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy.

A VDR is a device that is securely fitted to a ship to continuously record important information related to a ship’s operations. VDR data on a ship can be used as vital information during an emergency inspection. It’s a bit like the black box on an airplane.

No signs of oil or chemical leaks have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, the rear or hull of the affected ship remained at a depth of about 21 meters.

The front part is slowly flattened.

The divers performed a preliminary test to assess the condition of the hole.

The Sri Lanka Navy, the Indian Coast Guard, Salvos and other local authorities that can respond to any sign of oil pollution or debris are currently on the scene and closely monitoring the situation.
