    Polgolla Reservoir is spilling – A warning to people in the lowlands

    Due to the heavy rain, steps have been taken to open 5 sluice gates of Polgolla Mahaweli Dam.

    17,500 cubic feet of water will be released per second after taking steps to open 5 sluice gates at Mahaweli Dam.

    The Mahaweli Dam Engineer’s Office requests the public to be more careful when using the Mahaweli River’s lowlands from the dam.

    At present, 8 sluice gates of Polgolla Deduru Oya have been opened and the amount of water released per second from them is 19,200 cubic feet.

    The Meteorological Department also states that Uva and Eastern Provinces may experience rain or thundershowers in the evening or during the night.
