The Ministry of Trade has informed the Consumer Affairs Authority to conduct raids across the island to find out whether the consumers are getting the benefit of the reduced prices of imported essential food items.
Trade Minister Naleen Fernando says that the raids will be carried out in relation to supermarkets and retail stores.
Wholesalers got the opportunity to import essential food items through open accounts.
Through that, there was a decrease in the prices of imported essential food items. The minister said that raids are being conducted to find out whether supermarkets and retailers are giving that advantage to consumers.
