    Gotabaya went to Thailand

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was staying in Singapore, has gone to Thailand today.

Foreign news has reported that he landed at Don Mueang International Airport today (August 11).

The Reuters news service had published the photos of the moment Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa arrived at the Thailand airport as follows.

Thai authorities said the former president’s stay in the country is only temporary.

However, the Bangkok Post has reported that Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Wednesday that Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa will seek permanent asylum in another country.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha told reporters yesterday that ‘this is a humanitarian issue and there is agreement that it is a temporary stay’. Prayut said that Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa cannot participate in any political activity while in Thailand.

Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai had stated that the Sri Lankan government supported the former President’s visit to Thailand.

It is also stated that the former president’s diplomatic passport would allow him to stay for 90 days in Thailand.

Below is how Reuters reported this news.
