Railway General Manager Mr. Dhammika Jayasundara said that the increased train fares will be effective from today (24).
The career action of station masters has ended and with it, the hike in train fares will come into effect from today.
These decisions have been arrived at during a discussion between station masters and railway department authorities.
The station masters took professional action protesting the revision of railway fares.
Accordingly, they refrained from issuing regular tickets.
A discussion in this regard was held between station masters and railway authorities this morning.
The station masters have presented their problems there and they have decided to withdraw from the industrial action which was planned to take place for 48 hours.
