The 10 independent parties in Parliament decide to negotiate separately with the candidates running for the presidency.
Representing the 10 parties the leader of the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna, MP Wimal Weerawansa stated that special attention will be paid to the policies of the candidates during the discussions.
He further mentioned that discussions have already started with the candidates running for the presidency.
Meanwhile, the National Organizer of Samagi Jana Balawega, Member of Parliament Mr. Tissa Attanayake said that a final decision will be reached today (16) regarding how to act in the presidential election race.
He also mentioned that his party is ready to make a decision in this regard if it is possible to reach a common consensus with the Member of Parliament, Mr. Dallas Alahapperuma, who has declared that he will run for the presidency.
The Jathika Jana Balawegaya says that their party has not yet made a final decision regarding whether or not to support a presidential candidate.
Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, a Member of Parliament of that party, says that the final decision in this regard will be announced today (16) or tomorrow (17).
She also mentioned that her party has started discussions with other political parties and candidates who run for the presidency.
