Red light for the OICs who did not follow the proper way to the post

The IGP has decided to direct the officers who are currently holding OIC posts without conducting the interview for the selection of OICs for the interviews.

According to the Police Headquarters, it has also received the approval of the Ministry of Public Security.

Although an interview was conducted in the past to select suitable officers for the post of OIC, it has been alleged that most of the OIC officers who did not attend the interview were appointed for political reasons. This has been confirmed by a confidential document sent by the IGP to the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense last December.

According to the Police Headquarters, with the appointment of Tiran Alles as the Minister of Public Security, special attention has been paid in this regard and this interview is to be conducted as a result of giving the IGP the opportunity to appoint OICs as required by him.

In addition to these officers, it has been decided to select officers who would like to hold the post of OIC through interviews. Necessary steps have been taken to call for applications from those officers. IGP Mr. C. D. Wickramaratne has even issued a special police order in this regard.

Accordingly, steps have been taken to obtain applications before June 13 from OIC officers who wish to hold the post of OIC and who have not yet appeared for the interviews. A senior official at the Police Headquarters said that the current OICs who fail the interview will also be relieved of their posts.
