In the Indian state of Odisha, there is a report of a courageous mother cleaning the streets.
Her name is Lakshmi Muki and it is a common sight in the area to see a child tied behind her back and sweeping the streets.
“I have been working for Baripada Municipality for ten years and I live alone, so I have to work with my child, but it’s not a big problem for me. I do my duty,” she said.
Badal Mohanty, Chairman of the Baripada Municipal Council commented:
“Lakshmi is a member of our cleaning staff. Due to some personal issues she takes her baby with her and does her duty daily. I have instructed my officers to monitor her needs and we are ready to assist her if there is any problem.”
