Veteran film actress Mallika Pilapitiya has passed away.
Born on October 4, 1936 in Hanguranketha, Mallika Pilapitiya was 86 years old at the time of her death.
Mallika Pilapitiya is the beloved mother of teledrama and film actor Roshan Pilapitiya and the beloved wife of Ariya Abhayasinghe.
She starred in the film “Rekhawa” (1956) directed by Dr. Lester James Peiris, which is considered as a turning point in Sri Lankan cinema.
However, she later starred in the teledrama “Golu Hadawatha” directed by Dr. Lester James Peiris himself.
Mallika Pilapitiya and another film actor Ananda Weerakoon was performing the song “Olu Nelum Neriya Rangala” which was one of the most popular songs in the film Rekhawa.
The last rites of the late Mallika Pilapitiya will be announced later.
