    Sri Lanka’s oldest woman passed away at the age of 116

    Mother Kankanam Gamage Dingihamy, a resident of Imaduwa Kanankewatta, who is considered to be the oldest living woman in the country, passed away this morning.

    She passed away at the age of 116.

    She was born on January 11, 1906 in Athurali.ya

    She was married to Mr. M. G. De Norris and is a mother of three children.

    Mother Velu Pappani, who passed away on December 29, 2020 at Cloden Estate, Dodamgoda, Kalutara, was also a 117 year old woman. She was born on May 3, 1903. She was the oldest woman in the country at that time.

    Mother Kiri Ukku, who lived in Aranayake Gevilipitiya village, also died on December 2, 2017 at the age of 115. She was born on June 4, 1902. In 2014, at the age of 112, she competed in veterans’ athletics and javelin and javelin throw events.
