The Inter Company Employees Union has written to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa requesting him to immediately intervene to transfer the Rs. 5,000 allowance paid to state-sector employees to the private sector.
The letter sent to the President by the Inter Company Employees Union states, working people should also receive all the relief provided when the cost of living rises in the country, just as state-sector employees were given an allowance of Rs. 5000, it is the responsibility of the government to provide the same amount to the private sector as well.
About 60 percent of private-sector employees who directly contribute to about 80 percent of the country’s manufacturing process and who make up 80 percent of the workforce, earn less than 25,000 rupees.
