CEB bosses reveal reasons for the power outage in the country

Mr. H. M. Wijekoon, President of the Ceylon Electricity Board Senior Electrical Engineers’ Association said that there are many factors that could lead to a sudden power outage across the country.

Mr. Wijekoon told a news conference in Colombo today that there had been two power outages on two consecutive days when there was no change in the weather and therefore a fair investigation should be carried out.

Mr. Wijekoon said that if it was proved after the fair investigation that it was a subversive act, the maximum punishment should be given against the group.

Speaking at the press conference, Nandika Pathirage, Media Spokesperson of the CEB Senior Engineers’ Association said that the collapse of the Norochcholai Power Plant could have been stopped if the necessary technical measures had been taken within 40 minutes of the power outage.

However, letting the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant collapse without taking any measures raises further suspicions, he said.

He also said that the damage caused by the power outage was in the tens of millions and posed a threat to national security.

A group of senior management officials of the Ceylon Electricity Board was also present at the press conference.
