PM ordered IGP to expedite investigations on the director of the Consumer Affairs Authority

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today (24) ordered the IGP to expedite investigations into a complaint lodged by Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena against the Executive Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority Thushan Gunawardena.

This was in response to a request made by Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena at the Ministerial Cost of Living Committee meeting held today.

A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Unit states that the Prime Minister immediately responded and instructed the IGP to conduct a police investigation to the complaint made by Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

Mr. Thushan Gunawardena had stated that he was resigning from his post due to pressure on him in a number of cases to sign several contracts related to the purchase of goods and to oppose irregularities.

The Minister of Trade has requested to expedite the investigations regarding the relevant allegations. According to reliable sources, Thushan Gunawardena will be responding in this regard in the near future.
