    Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered the immediate release of essential food items stuck in the port warehouses

    Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered the immediate release of essential food items stuck in the port, at the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Cost of Living which met today (24).

    According to the Prime Minister’s Media Unit, the Prime Minister has given this order to the Controller General of Imports and Exports and the Director-General of Customs, focusing on the cost of living of the people of the country.

    Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance has instructed Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena to distribute the essential food items that will be released to the people through Sathosa and essential food importers.

    It was emphasized at this meeting that the Ministry of Trade and Agriculture officials should be responsible for releasing essential food items including rice to the market without any shortage.
