SL Police is giving opportunity for women to become IGP

The Public Service Commission has approved a proposal made by the Police Headquarters to reserve a Senior DIG post for a female officer, changing the history of the Sri Lanka Police and giving a woman the opportunity to rise to the rank of Inspector General of Police in the future.

Bimshani Jasinghearachchi is currently the highest-ranking female officer in the Sri Lanka Police. She holds the post of Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police.

A senior official at the Police Headquarters stated that the Public Service Commission has approved the appointment of four DIGs for women officers.

However, as there are no women SSPs who are currently eligible for permanent appointments to the post of DIG, the vacancies will be filled on an acting basis for three senior SSPs who are as senior as Mrs. Bimshani Jasinghearachchi.

Accordingly, Director of Research and Statistics SSP Renuka Jayasundara, Director of Police Welfare SSP Padmini Weerasuriya, Deputy Director of State Intelligence SSP A. G. N. D. Seneviratne will soon be appointed DIG on an acting basis.

Meanwhile, the Public Service Commission has approved the promotion of 12 Chief Inspectors of Police as Assistant Superintendents of Police.

The order regarding the promotions will be issued by the Police Headquarters in the next few days.
