    CID uncovers a counterfeit money printing Scam

    The Police Special Task Force (STF) has arrested three persons with 602 counterfeit Rs. 500 money notes after uncovering a counterfeit money printing and distribution scam.

    The STF was able to crack down on this organized counterfeit banknote printing scam during an arrest made in Liyanagemulla, Seeduwa last evening. The arrested person, who arrived on a motorcycle was distributing money at the time. He had 60 counterfeit Rs. 500 notes in possession during the arrest.

    Subsequent interrogations revealed that the other suspects had been arrested and the remaining stock of notes had been recovered. The STF also seized a computer used to print the notes, a printing press and three mobile phones used to coordinate the racket.

    The suspects are aged 25, 43 and 45 and residents of Gampaha, Veyangoda and Wellampitiya.

    The suspects have been handed over to the Counterfeit Money Investigation Unit of the CID for further investigations.
