    Islandwide Curfew Starts – Here’s govt’s plan for the next 10 days

    With the decision taken to implement the curfew in effect island wide from 10.00 pm today (20) to 4.00 am on Monday 30th August, the President instructed the authorities to complete the vaccination of all those over 60 years of age who have not yet received the vaccine before 1st of September starting from tomorrow.

    These persons should be identified through the Divisional Secretary, Heads of Local Government Institutions and Rural Covid Suppression Committees and reported to the Health Division before Monday 23rd for vaccination.

    Registration is also available by calling the 1906 hotline or the National Corruption Eradication Center. It was also decided to carry out this vaccination program under the supervision of the Army Commander as per the instructions of the Health Department.

    The President made this observation at a meeting with the Covid Suppression Special Committee held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (20).

    The President also instructed to continue the operation of essential services including garments and construction industries, export industries, pharmacies, airports and air operations during the curfew period.

    The President also instructed the IGP to find out the violators of the quarantine curfew and enforce the law against them.

    The President instructed the Minister of State for Indigenous Medicine to take steps to provide local medicines to the people at the rural and urban levels during this period.

    Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Keheliya Rambukwella, Gamini Lokuge, Dallas Alahapperuma, Prasanna Ranatunga, State Ministers Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Sisira Jayakody, Channa Jayasumana, Presidential Adviser Lalith Weerasinghe, Health Secretary Major General Specialist Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Health Secretary General Asela Gunawardena, Commanders of the Army and Navy, the Inspector General of Police, Chiefs of Defense and Health Services were also present.
