Senior journalist and writer Krishna Wijebandara has passed away.
He passed away while receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle yesterday (17) afternoon.
He entered the media field as the Kiriella Regional Correspondent of Lake House and has worked for the Lankadeepa, Lakbima, Irudina and Sathi-aga Aruna newspapers.
He was the Regional Editor of Lakbima for some time and became the teacher of many journalists and a humble person.
He was a man who bravely wielded the pen against environmental destruction and was sensitive to the problems of the farming community.
Mr. Krishna was also the editor of the Walaspathi blog.
Krishna is also the author of several books on gem resources, including a number of valuable books on the environment and ancient heritage.
Mr. Krishna, a resident of Magamulana, Medakimbiya, Galle, was a father of one and the husband of Mrs. Padmalatha, a retired schoolteacher who worked at Waduramba Central College.
Mr. Krishna’s last rites will be performed in Galle.
