    Didn’t Parliament Pay a Rs. 70 Mn. Electricity Bill?

    The Minister of Power and Energy has today requested the Speaker that the news that Parliament has defaulted on an electricity bill of 7 crore rupees to the Ceylon Electricity Board is false and Mr. Ranjan Jayalal, a leader of the Electricity Board Trade Union, who made the statement, should be brought before the Privileges Committee of the Parliament and take relevant legal steps.

    When the Parliament met today, Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, the Minister of Electricity and Energy, said that he had looked into the news published in the media and that the Parliament had paid all the electricity bills monthly without leaving any arrears.
