Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service Union alleges that schools have been closed for about a year and a half, but that the principals of some schools are asking parents for facilities and service fees.
The principals have instructed the parents to credit the relevant fees to the school development account and send the receipt through WhatsApp, said the General Secretary of the association Mahinda Jayasinghe.
Mr. Jayasinghe said that it was unfair to ask for such facilities and services fee at a time when the people were suffering due to the covid epidemic.
Therefore, the Minister of Education is requested to direct the principals to pay back the facilities and service fees charged for the year 2020-2021 to the parents.
