    Extreme heat warning

The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning about hot weather in several areas of the island today (17).

This announcement has been issued to be valid for tomorrow in North, North-Central, Eastern and Uva Provinces and for Hambantota District.

According to the Department of Meteorology, it is expected that the heat index, i.e. the heat felt by the human body, has been at a level that calls for “attention” in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva Provinces and in some places in the Hambantota District.

Accordingly, prolonged exposure to it and engaging in activities may cause fatigue.

It also warns that muscle spasms caused by further dehydration may occur.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology says that in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-West, Central and Eastern Provinces and in Mullaitivu District today (17), there may be rain or thundershowers at places during the evening or at night.

The department mentions that there may be some rain in the morning in the western coastal areas and Galle and Matara districts.

The Department of Meteorology requests the people to take necessary measures to reduce the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
