The Secretary to the Ministry of Education Prof. Kapila Perera said that necessary steps will be taken to reopen the schools as soon as the recommendation of the Health Department is received.
However, schools should be reopened in a health-safe manner and teachers and non-academic staff should be vaccinated before reopening, he said.
He said there were calls from various parties to reopen the schools in areas where the covid 19 virus has been controlled.
