Requests to strengthen the monkeypox detection program

The Association of Government Medical Officers says that the authorities should take measures to strengthen surveillance activities at airports and other places to prevent the spread of monkeypox disease in Sri Lanka.

The secretary of the association, Dr. Haritha Aluthge, said that by directly touching the secretions from the wounds of an infected person, another person can be infected.

He said this while commenting on the identification of a monkey fever patient in this country.

“Currently, it is recognized that the disease is contagious through direct contact with the secretions associated with the crusts of the wounds. Therefore, especially if you have come from a foreign country, the special feature of having a fever is that you get these sores and rashes. Also, if your genitals are injured around your anus, seek medical attention immediately.

Make a definite confirmation in this regard and refrain from sexual activities until the disease is completely cured. It is recommended all over the world. The speciality of this disease is that more than 80% of patients recover on their own. The people are requested to stay close to this matter without unnecessary panic until the technical committee announces what measures will be taken by the country.” He also said.
