Senior journalist Dinith Chinthaka Karunaratne took over as the Director General of the Government Information Department today.

This appointment has been made by the Minister of Media Bandula Gunawardena on the recommendation of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Dinith Chinthaka Karunaratne is an alumnus of Ananda Vidyalaya.
A group of people including Anusha Palpita, who has worked as a Director General of the Government News Department of Lankadeepa newspaper and who is currently working as the Secretary of the Ministry of Media, former Director General of the Government Information Department Mohan Samaranayake participated in this event.
Mr. Dinith Chinthaka Karunaratne, who started his professional career as a reporter for Wijaya Newspaper Company’s Lankadeepa newspaper, is a journalist who has gained experience in the media industry for more than three decades in many responsible positions including the position of co-editor of newspapers.
An alumnus of Ananda Vidyalaya, Colombo, the new Director General of News is a graduate of Kelaniya University in Biology.
Also, Mr. Karunaratne, who holds a post-graduate diploma in communication from St. Monica University, California, USA, has extensive experience in the field of media both locally and abroad.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the new Director General of Information, the Secretary of the Ministry of Media, Mr. Anusha Palpita and the officials of the Ministry of Media and the Government Information Department were also present.
