English for practical use in schools from next year

Minister of Education Dr. Susil Premajayantha says that starting from next year, under the new education reforms, steps will be taken to practice the English language from the first grade.

The Ministry of Education said that the Minister expressed these views while participating in the “English is Simple” English language promotion program implemented by the Ministry of Education with the contribution of resources from the National Savings Bank to develop the English language knowledge of school children.

In addition to this, the minister has also indicated that it has been proposed to teach the two subjects of mathematics and science from grade 6 and above through English medium.

The minister has said that many of the technical terms in those subjects are related to the English language, so children can get used to it without much difficulty, so there is no injustice.

The minister also said that a separate program is currently being implemented to provide English language skills by overcoming the shortage of science, mathematics and English teachers, which has been one of the reasons for the backwardness of children in rural areas and said that the university, education service and teacher consultants will also help for it.

According to this English language promotion program, “English is Simple”, skill-based activity manuals and CDs will be given to children in all secondary schools in the country.

The Ministry of Education also says that all the children of the country can get this English language knowledge by accessing the e-Taxalawa website of the Ministry.
