    Leading Airman sets new record

    Leading Aircraftman Roshan Abeysundara of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) set a new Asian record by swimming across the Palk Strait from Talaimannar to Dhanishkodi and back. Though 14 swimmers have crossed the Palk Strait to date, the unique feat of swimming back was undertaken by only one Sri Lankan before. Kumar Anandan did it in 1971, taking 51 hours to complete the event.The latest swimmer did it this morning (11) in 28 hours 19 minutes 43 seconds, setting a new record, the SLAF said.The Indian High Commission said in a release on Saturday that it is happy to provide necessary arrangements on the Indian side, and extends its best wishes to the ace swimmer for success in his forthcoming endeavor.
