The Essential Commodities Importers Association states that the shortage of dollars has further hampered the stockpiling of surplus food items for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
The media spokesman of the association Nihal Seneviratne stated that about a thousand containers containing rice, sugar, dhal and chillies are currently stuck in the Colombo harbor.
He also stated that steps will be taken to release them soon.
