“Booster vaccinated people are 81% less likely to be hospitalized than those who didn’t”

Compared to non-booster-vaccinated Omicron patients, the risk of hospitalization by Omicron infections was reduced by 81% for those who have been given the Covid booster doses, says Dr. Chandima Jeewandara of the Department of Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jayewardenepura. He was quoting the results of a UK study on Omicron.

He also points out that Omicron patients who received two doses had a 65% lower risk of being hospitalized than those who did not receive any vaccine.

It has also been found that the risk of hospitalization of Omicron infected people to the emergency department is approximately one-third higher than that of Delta infected people.

Omicron seems to be more prevalent among those who have not been vaccinated against Covid and those who are not pre-infected with the virus.

He also points out that the common cold can be a precursor to becoming a COVID-19 infected patient.
