Bus fare revisions will not take place today

State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama says that the revision of bus fares will not be implemented from today.

However, the new bus fares and when they will be implemented will be announced after today’s discussion, he said.

He said the National Transport Commission (NTC) would make recommendations on how to revise fares in line with the bus fare increasing formula.

As per the recommendation of the NTC, discussions are being held with private bus owners’ associations to increase bus fares so as not to burden the people. The bus fare should be increased as fuel prices were increased by 17 rupees on two occasions. Until it’s being considered, we did not allow the increase in bus fares, ” said the State Minister.

He also said that there is a definite loss in operating the buses of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB). He said the increase in bus fares was a burden to the people and measures should be taken to reduce the pressure on the people.

Minister Amunugama said that after the discussions held today, the Ministry will announce the revision of bus fares and the date on which it will be implemented.
