Ven. Buddhangala Ananda Thero, who resided at the Buddhangala Monastery in Ampara, passed away this morning.
He is the brother of the Minister of Public Defense Sarath Weerasekara and at the age of 78 when died.
Prior to his ordination, he was a renowned General Ananda Weerasekera who served as a Major General in the Army.
An alumnus of Nalanda College, Colombo, his last rites will be announced later, the Ministry of Public Defense said.
