Police have received a complaint that around 3000 chickens have died in a fire that broke out at a poultry farm in Pannala today.
It is suspected that the fire was caused by a gas leak.
A private poultry farm in the Waragala area in Divulapitiya also caught fire on the 11th, killing about 10,000 chickens.
The fire broke out at around 3.20 am. According to the police, there are about 35,000 chickens in the farm and they are kept in 07 halls. The fire broke out in one of the halls.
Three 37.5 kg gas cylinders were installed to heat the chickens and it is believed that a leak in one of the cylinders may have caused the fire.
