Researchers in the United Kingdom have found that the Covid booster vaccine can provide up to 85% protection against the Omicron covid variant.
Still, the potection from vaccines is less effective than the previous variants of covid.
However, this means that the booster vaccine has the potential to reduce hospitalizations somewhat due to Omicron.
Researchers say there is a high level of uncertainty until real-world information is gathered about this rapidly spreading new species.
Experts are still trying to figure out how mild or severe Omicron will be.
Vaccines help to teach the body how to fight covid. But the ones currently in use are not designed to fight the severely mutated Omicron variant, i.e. they do not fit perfectly.
People in the UK are therefore advised to take a booster dose to build up high antibody levels to fight the virus.
