The Graduation Ceremony of the University of Colombo was held at the BMICH this morning and the Graduation boxes were presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeratne during the graduation ceremony.
Although the Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Nayaka Thera was present at the graduation ceremony, he did not hand over the graduation boxes.
Meanwhile, several doctoral associations and the Students’ Union of the university have informed the university administration that they are refusing to accept the degree box from the Chancellor.
Therefore, a group of lecturers and students had requested the Vice Chancellor not to invite him to the graduation ceremony.
However, the Chancellor was invited to the graduation ceremony and he presented some special degree awards while all the other Degree Boxes were presented by the Vice Chancellor.
Meanwhile, students who had come to graduate yesterday were seen wearing black ribbons to protest against the Chancellor.
